Party Patriots organized July 17 protests at local
Congressional offices nationwide about the health care legislation.
A similar Recess Rally
followed on August 22.
There are also many locally organized counter-protests sponsored by
various groups in response to the staged pro-Obama rallies by groups

June 2, 2009 - US inviting Iranian diplomats to July 4 parties -
Comment: Let's do better than the White House and State
Department on this outreach initiative. Let's invite all the
Iranian refugees in America who have fled the
tyranny in Iran to
to join us at Tea Party protests and celebrations of freedom across America on
July 4. Let's show our shared opposition to appeasement toward the Iranian
tyrants. Wear green on July 4 this year to symbolize
sympathy for the Iranian protesters - green ribbons, wrist bands, hats,
shirts, etc. A symbolic video gesture was to release many green
balloons simultaneously. Do you remember the "yellow
ribbons" which people across America tied to their trees, fence posts,
telephone poles, cars, or clothes during the hostage crisis in Iran to
symbolize their solidarity with the hostages? Why not use green
ribbons now for the same purpose?
Invite many other refugees from political and economic
tyranny worldwide, too. Many already participated in Tax Day Tea
Parties, because they value our liberty and freedom here. Let the
protesters in Iran know that the people
of the United States support their aspirations for liberty from tyranny,
even if Obama seems to be far more interested in befriending tyrants
around the world. Obama is even worse than Carter, as are the
Democratic leaders in Congress. |

June 23, 2009 - Obama was asked whether the
invitations are still open to Iranian diplomats (below) for July 4
celebrations at US Embassies, and confirmed once again that the
invitations have not been rescinded despite the ruthless violence by
Iranian government forces against protesters. Disgraceful.
Some in the White House and their media friends are even trying to spin
this story to suggest that his Cairo
speech encouraged the Iranian protesters.

We encourage support of
Memorial Day celebrations (not protests) to honor those
individuals who have bravely defended our Constitution and the American
principles and values by which this country has become uniquely
successful in this competitive and dangerous world. That should
fit the basic "Silent No More" theme of standing up for what we firmly
believe, rather than attacking those who are now trying to change our
country beyond the limits of our Constitution. |

It is time to encourage the early
"selection out" of many politicians for actions which are harmful to our
country from a conservative perspective. In that context, we are
now accepting nominations for the bipartisan
2009 Specious American Politician Awards - and refer to
Tea Party Tactics. |

More details and links about the July 4 event
plans will be shared below as they become available. A new website has been launched recently -
www.TeaPartyPatriots.org
This involves several people who were behind the Tea Party movement
from the beginning in February. There seems to be growing rivalry
among some of the Tea Party organizers, which includes some traditional
Republicans and Libertarians and very independent Americans who are mad
at both major parties. They may be unified in opposition to what
is being done by the Democratic leaders in Congress, but there is no
real consensus yet about the way forward. That is to be expected -
as a true grassroots movement which is more like a competitive free
market, rather than a top-down political command structure.
The TEA (Taxed Enough Already) group has now launched
www.TEAPartyDay.com to
promote their own plans for July 4 events, too. This has ties to the
American Family
Association.
July 4 Tea Party plans are also listed at
ReTeaParty - "Re-Declare Your Independence".
Another new site is
www.TeaPartyNation.com .
Others may also turn up, including state and local sites as well as
those which are promoting merchandise related to the Tea Party concept.
Glenn Reynolds still maintains some links on his "American Tea
Party" page at PJTV. The
Pajamas TV list of Tea Party events no longer seems active, although
the website indicates that it is being reorganized. Many other
bloggers have also posted stories about the Tea Party movement, such as
Michelle Malkin.
After the April 15 protests,
www.nationwidechicagoteaparty.com started to share plans for July
4 Tea Party preparations, including Prof. Randy Barnett's proposed "Bill
of Federalism", as presented in his recent OpEd piece, "The
Case for a Federalism Amendment" in the Wall Street Journal.
There was some dissent among Tea Party organizers about this idea.
While
Michael Patrick Leahy and some others seemed to be enthusiastic about
it, they certainly didn't speak for all Tea Party organizers or
attendees. That included Leahy's announcement that he and others
planned to accept Obama's invitation to meet and talk, although
many regarded this unilateral decision as a serious mistake.
WorldNetDaily reported plans for over 350 tea
parties on July 4, and was compiling a list.
The "Our
Country Deserves Better" PAC has launched a new "Tea Party
Express" website at
http://www.teapartyexpress.org/ to promote a series of Tea
Party rallies across the country from August 28 to September 12.
Preparations are also being made for a major
9/12/09 National Taxpayer
Protest in Washington, DC. This is sponsored by
FreedomWorks
and co-sponsored by the
Club for Growth,
National Taxpayers Union,
Americans for Tax Reform, and
Young Americans for
Liberty.
Until now, the focus has primarily been on
preparations for the April 15 Tax Day Tea Party
protests.
The official website for the Independence Day Tea Party protests
nationwide was originally expected to be
www.IndependenceDayTeaParty.com but content
has
not yet published as of 5/8/09, so this blog site apparently will not be
used as intended. |

Some leaders of the Republican Party have launched a new
"National Council for a New America" initiative while others have
launched a
Resurgent
Republic website with some
recent polling data from Karl Rove & Co. They are planning
some "town hall" events, as reported in this
story at TownHall.com This may be of interest to some Tea
Party participants, but it's not clear that these Republicans "get it"
yet. They are still too worried about being the "party of no", or
proposing alternative "big ideas". Instead of test marketing new
ideas and rhetoric for 2010, perhaps they really need to listen first,
and do something to earn back trust. It's not enough to just wait
passively and hope to regain a few seats in 2010.
Others apparently share misgivings about this initiative.

This
Pajamas TV interview with Prof. Barnett about his Bill of
Federalism proposal outlines some ideas which volunteers may want
to consider when planning their local July 4 Tea Party events.
There is some debate about whether this is really such a good idea - or
perhaps a divisive or very confusing distraction. It may be an
interesting hypothetical debate for constitutional law scholars, but it
may not be a wise political strategy or new focus for those who are
organizing the Tea Parties. |
The first Tea Party protests attracted over 15,000 people on February 27 after less than one
week of preparation. This was done through online social networking among conservative
Americans (not just Republicans). They were very concerned about the
recent "stimulus" bill, thousands of pork projects in the budget, and
many other initiatives of the new Congress and Obama
administration. Attendees included many independents and some Democrats with "buyers
remorse" already, because this spending was not the change which they
believed in, or were expecting to occur. By
April 15, this grew to 800+ protests
- organized in just 8 weeks. We have set up special pages for
Tea Party news (photos, videos,
news reports, blog reports) and crowd
estimates. We previously covered the
Chicago Tea Party and related protests
nationwide on February 27. |

One
national
theme proposed for the Independence Day Tea Party protests is: "Repeal the
Pork - Learn the Constitution". Since these are locally
organized events, however, there may be some variations according to the
judgment of the local volunteers involved. There may also be some related
activities, such as writing competitions on the Constitution theme or
other ideas which tie into the general spirit of Independence Day
celebrations in the many cities involved. Another suggestion has
been to start looking for 2010 political candidates who embrace the
basic principles of the Tea Party movement.
Our own suggestion has been to support our veterans on
Memorial Day, and launch a
Specious American Politician Award to select
out the worst offenders from the gene pool of American politics. |
| Note
that these events are not limited to major cities or state capitols.
Anybody can volunteer to organize them in their community, but they
should follow the common theme and schedule as part of the nationwide
"Tea Party" movement. The choice of venue and
timing (and any necessary permit arrangements) will be handled locally,
as will be the program details (speakers, etc.). In general, these
protests are not intended to become a platform for individual
politicians or party leaders (of any party). Instead, their
purpose is to bring Americans together so that their own concerns can be
heard directly. In that context, the events are very different
from the staged "town hall" events which are organized by political
candidates. Politicians are generally welcome to attend - but to
listen to the people, rather than to address them and push a specific
agenda or political party or career. |
| The
events are generally not being organized by the Republican Party or PACs
or any campaign. These are individual, "grassroots" events which
are open to all who share conservative concerns about the rapid growth
of government spending and bureaucracy, including new social programs
and involuntary transfers of wealth through federal tax power of
government from hard-working individuals to others. Although
participants obviously include many people who may have personal ties to
conservative organizations, and some organizations have chosen to help
sponsor and organize the protests, the intent is really to keep the
protests open to all concerned Americans, regardless of political party
or organizational affiliations or any specific political issues. |
The primary concern is about the rights of individuals,
the limits of federal government power, and the proper role of local and
state government, including local control of education, as a vital Tenth
Amendment check against the creeping power and spending of federal
government programs. |
| In
summary, these events provide an opportunity for conservatives to meet
with others in their communities who may share many of their basic
values, even if they may disagree on some issues, and to figure out
among themselves how best to get organized to defend the principles on
which this country was founded and was built successfully by the hard
work of such individuals for so long. This is
not just about preparing for the 2010 election cycle, nor is it to push
specific candidates or political organizations and interest groups. It is a nationwide initiative to network and
organize conservatives locally so that they can get more engaged as individuals and
have whatever impact they choose on the future of their own communities,
and their states, as well as nationally.
In short, these local groups are free to choose how to
develop and defend their own vision for America's future. It's a
bottom-up "we the people" process for these many individuals to be heard
- not driven top-down by national political leaders or their parties or
special interest groups.
This isn't about top-down leadership. It's not
about politicians telling us what they think we should do. It is
about individual Americans working together in their local communities
to bring about the changes in which they believe - rather than by
looking to a few in Washington for all the solutions. They may disagree on
some issues, because as individuals that is normal. Just as all
the people in a business don't have to agree on all things to work
together productively, the same is true in this venture. Every
individual brings different skills and experience to the table, and thus
can contribute to the effort in different ways to create a better future
for their families and communities. |

What about The 912 Project which Glenn
Beck is promoting? Is it about him, or about you? Fox
News is the only major national network which has developed strong
interest in the Tea Party movement - but only after it became fairly
well established already without any media coverage. They were
skeptics at first - and haven't said much about it since April. |
