NY GOP picks 2 potential Gillibrand challengers - Instead of
rigging the primary in advance, New York voters will actually have
choices among Republican candidates in September. |
|
March 5, 2010 -
Massa resigns under ethics cloud - Comment: Memorable for
his defiant support for the healthcare bill and creation of a
single-payer system last fall. "I will vote adamantly against the
interests of my district if I actually think what I am doing is going to
be helpful." " I will vote against their opinion if I actually
believe it will help them." - at the Netroots Nation convention in
Pittsburgh in August |

No longer coy, Giuliani won't run for NY office |
|
November 17, 2009 -
Hoffman 'unconcedes' in NY 23 US House race -
Comment: Unlike Franken or Gore, he doesn't seem to have
unleashed an onslaught of lawyers to change the election outcome.
He seems to just be waiting to see what the final count may be, even
though Pelosi quickly swore in Owens. |

November 1, 2009 -
GOP ex-candidate endorses Democrat in NY race - Comment:
So much for the party loyalty which Michael Steele and Newt Gingrich
were so worried about when they supported her. We shall soon see
whose endorsement carries more weight with voters in the NY 23rd
district. Perhaps Republican leaders will
finally wake up before making such endorsements for 2010 primaries.
We have a similar problem in Illinois with the Mark Kirk campaign as a
liberal Republican candidate for US Senator to replace Roland Burris.
Hopefully voters will not follow party leadership in their support of
his campaign, in which case the February 2 primary in Illinois may help
to change "the Chicago way" of deals among party leaders who are out of
touch with voters and play power games with other people's money. |

October 23, 2009 -
Sarah Palin has endorsed Doug Hoffman on her Facebook page. |
|
October 18, 2009 -
NY House race seen as test for GOP, Obama - Comment: The
Republican Party may lose this normally secure House seat (NY 23rd
District) because of the controversial candidate it selected. One
can only hope that the independent Republican,
Doug
Hoffman, will win or finish second as a warning shot across the
bow of the Republican Party leadership nationally prior to the more
vital 2010 elections. See the
Michelle Malkin blog entry of October 16 about this race, as well as
the
guest post by Doug Hoffman about his candidacy. |
|
The Republican Party has supported a controversial
candidate for NY 23rd, Dede Scozzafava. This has attracted strong
protests from many conservatives, such as these posts as just a few
examples:
A key point to note is that many of these critics are
not from NY 23rd - just like her RNC supporters. It is really up
to the voters of NY 23rd to figure this race out, but it will be
symbolic for 2010 candidates. |
|
Friend of ACORN? Gillibrand was 1 of only 7
Senators who voted against cutting off funding to ACORN after the
controversy exposed at
www.BigGovernment.com and on Fox News. Dick Durbin and Roland Burris
of Illinois were two of the others. In any case, these cuts were
just temporary - not permanent. |
|
August 8, 2009 -
NY's Gillibrand gets clearer path to 2010 election - Comment: Democrats
have already cut deals to avoid any real primary choice for voters. What
Republican will challenge her? |
